S4E5 PBtT- Consulting the Temples

PCs: Agnes (Duane), Katja (Geoff), Gary (Matt), Brandywyn (Tony)

Agnes and the party went to the temple of Sigmar to ask about the taxes.  The lower priest informed them they were packing up some valuables to try and lower the upcoming tax burden.  The priest believed that it was an Ulrican plot to drive out all the other churches.  It was especially insulting as the targeting of dwarfs was an affront to Sigmar.

At the Ulrican temple, Agnes discovered that the Ulricans are also paying the taxes. Brandyowyn was able to deduce that the lower priests were not happy about the taxes, but they would not speak out against them as the Ar-Ulric (High priest of Ulric) was a supporter of the taxes.

At the temple of Morr, they found the same complaints of the taxes.  Agnes did discover that the Graf’s recently deceased wife had passed away from exhaustion and drug abuse.

The group then met up with the guttersnipe watching the building they were supposed to deliver the crate to.  He introduced them to another orphan named Karl Matthus.  Karl told them that he could introduce them to someone who could help them move the Rhinox horn drug they brought.

He took them to “The Brettonian House” a dirty bar in the east of the city.  “Look for the half-nose. He can help you out.” They saw a dwarf missing his nose sitting in a booth.  Alfric “Half-nose” a dealer in information.  For a fee he could give you any information that you wanted.  He was also willing to swap information.  He soon established that if you pay the information was accurate.  He would not accept money for info he was not sure of.

Alfric’s information.  Total cost them 5 Gold

  • A bar called “The Pit” was the place to move illegal substances.  Look for Bruno.
  • The chancellor is addicted to Ranald’s Delight. He has it delivered by a green-eyed woman.
  • Gotthard arrived in Middenheim around 6 months ago.
  • Baron Stefan (The Graf’s sickly son) is being treated by a Tilean named Luigi Pavarotti who arrived a few months ago.
  • Heinrich (The Graf’s illegitimate son) would be a more appropriate heir and could unite the north
  • Alfric has a contact that deals with Nobility rumors, Josef.  The party arranged to meet with Josef the next evening.

At “The Pit”, an exceptionally filthy bar, they sold their Rhinox concoction and learned that he knows who the green-eyed woman is, but she is too good of a customer to rat out.  Even an attempted 10 Gold bribe was not enough.

Back at “The Templar’s Arms”, Count Boorman had the invites to the Graf’s Garden party ready for everyone.  He stated that something is going on.  The Graf is depressed and indecisive.  He had met Gotthard and found him a distasteful person to be around.

The party went back to the Ulric temple to recruit help in facing the Purple-Hand cultists when delivering the crate.  They fought the cultists and captured one while killing the others.

The cultist was intimidated into revealing that Capt Scharlach is a code for the cult meaning “Let this person pass.” Also, the cultists were to capture “Kastor” and hold him until after the carnival when the Magister Magistri would deal with him.

Agnes went back to talk with High Matriarch Isolde Begenen of the Shallayan temple.  She discovered that the Ar-Ulric has been vocal about supporting the taxes but has also been distracted the past month.  She also learned that Gotthard Wallenstein has been giving money to the Shallayan temple that will help pay the taxes.
